About UsHighland Park Elementary PTA supports and speaks on behalf of our children in the school, in the community and for government groups and other organizations that make decisions affecting children. We share with parents the resources to raise and protect their children and we encourage parent and public involvement in public schools across the country. Activities vary from group to group but at HPE you can be involved with any aspect of our function. One of our most important purposes is to fund raise. We work hard to ensure our school has what it needs. Often we help by purchasing things from art supplies to computers. At HPE we hold many fundraisers each year including a carnival, trash bag sales and several smaller events throughout the year. PTA is often called in to help work at and promote Book Fairs, Walk-a-Thons, and other school fundraisers. These events offer students reasonably priced books, stock classrooms, libraries and raise money for the school. Many parents enjoy volunteering in the classroom. Teachers at HPE keep anyone willing to help busy with assisting children with lessons, making copies, decorating and special events. At HPE we host two parties a year for our students. A harvest party in the fall near the end of October and a Valentine’s Day party the middle of February. Teacher Appreciation is another way to get involved. HPE PTA enjoys showing our teachers how valued they are through luncheons, teacher appreciation week events, finding classroom volunteers and other morale builders. We support school beautification efforts by helping to care for our outdoor classroom and our gardens. Keeping the lobby welcoming and the teacher lounge updated are other ways we keep our school nice. We offer opportunities for parenting classes and workshops or seminars. Keep informed about HPE and your PTA by checking the Thursday Packet, HPE’s weekly newsletter and by 'liking' Highland Park Elementary PTA on Facebook. If there is no contact information for the committee feel free to email the president with any questions. If it is open we are probably looking for a volunteer to help with it. Feel free to help us fill those openings!
