Frequently Asked QuestionsHow can I get involved with my child’s classroom? We have many opportunities to get involved directly with your child’s classroom. Room parents are always needed. These parents plan the parties, a fall party in October and a Valentine’s Day party in February. This is a great way to “get in good” with the kids as you are the fun parents who throw parties. Another way to get involved with the classroom is by volunteering in the class. Teachers are always seeking help with practicing reading words, spelling words and copy making. Sometimes even decorating. The time to sign up for these programs is at the beginning of the school year. We usually set up sign-up tables at both Meet Your Teacher Night and Open Enrollment. If you are a new family arriving mid-year ask your child’s teacher or contact a PTA member and we can get you involved. How can I make sure I know what is going on at the school? The “Thursday Packet” is where you can find information about upcoming events, programs, testing, meetings, etc. This is HPE’s main communication forum with parents and it is important to check it weekly. There is also information in them about community events and opportunities. Since going green we have a link on our school’s homepage hpe.leesummit.k12.mo.us. It is usually glowing and blinking and definitely visible! What does a PTA membership do for me?A PTA membership opens a network of people for you to use as a resource for your child’s education. Some of the moms in PTA are new and some are veterans. Some work and some take a more traditional role in the home. All parents in PTA share a common goal of supporting the school in any way possible to enhance their child’s scholastic experience. What difference do I actually make as a PTA member? As a PTA member you are assisting monetarily with your payment of dues and/or any donations you make throughout the year. Some parents also choose to get more hands on and chair committees and use their gifts and talents through spending time at events and fundraising. Every member provides support in an important way and the difference it makes is evident when you walk into HPE where we have an excellent track record of parent involvement and generous donations ranging from candy corn for the fall holiday party to donating for the privilege of using a reserved parking spot close to the front door! You can see what we spend our money on in the Fundraising section. Our most recent large purchase was our Huskies sign out front. |
